We are now working with the black soldier fly (BSF) and Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) in our compost. When it comes to an efficient compost organism the BSFL are about the most efficient at eating/chewing 99% of what goes into the compost. We have instructions below available to build your own larva bin or you can get the EZ BSF Larva Lab that is specifically made for feeding/raising/harvesting the larvae. The full lifecycle of the black soldier fly can be as little as 5 weeks and as long as 8 months (depending on temperature and food availability). Watch our educational videos below:

Weather Protections: To ensure your larvae arrive healthy and active, orders are adjusted or refunded based on local temperatures (heat packs required for freezing forecasts, and holding or pausing for extreme heat/cold).
If your a handy do it yourselfer this is an easy project. This bin sits 6’ x 2’ x 30” tall. The inside dimension is 60”x20”x14”. It takes 1 1/2 sheets of plywood, 1 - 10’ 2x4, and 4 - 1x2’s. The cut layout maximizes your wood usage.
There are crawlout ramps on both sides to maximize pupa harvesting, with plenty of compost area to grow mass amounts of larvae.
