Cedar Compost Bins:
All of our custom bins are made from wood products. Granted their life span may not be as long as plastic, but they are built simple, easy to update and repair. This is also made up in the savings in the initial cost of starting your compost recycling. Another advantage is our ability to build a redworm bin to specifically fit your needs for the whole house, community, or business. Each bin allows the option for the following additions:
Viewing window: With the window you can see your redworms at work and you are able to see the progress of your vermicompost without disturbing the redworms home.
Screen divider: The horizontal migration screen divider is to allow you to compost on one side of your bin until it is full. Once you start to compost the other side your redworms will migrate through the screen after they finish the first side. Then you can easily harvest your castings from the first side.
Removable front panels: The removable front panels were created to make it easier to remove your finished compost. If you wish to have the screen divider with the removable panels you will need the split panels so that your screen can be secured to the center post.
UV stain protection: This is already included on all bins (except the do it yourself bin). Cedar is known for turning gray in the sunlight and this protection will keep your looking new longer. This protection may need to be done every one to two years.

Live black soldier fly larvae (bsfl), size: small
Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are used to compost waste or convert the waste into animal feed. The fras created is a great fertilizer for your garden/plants. In the larvae stage they convert the waste they are fed into protein and fat (this is the larvae). Great for feeding to birds, reptiles, fish…
The small larvae average 1/4” and smaller. Average weight is between .005-.01 grams.

Medium feeder size larvae are great for feeding your reptiles, fish and chickens. They are high in protein, calcium and other essential nutrients for your animals. The medium larvae are also great for buying in larger quantities and growing to the larger size. This is when their appetite is the most voracious and they grow fast.
Medium larvae are 1/4” to 5/8” in size. Average weight is .025-.035 grams each. 15,000 larvae = approx 1 lb.

This size larvae are more white then black larvae. They will last longer than the extra large for feeding.
Large larvae are 5/8” and larger, minimum weight is .07 grams to .09 grams, 5,000 large larvae weigh approx. 1 lb.

Extra large BSF larvae are 1” and larger. Average weight is .1 gram or higher. This may be for a limited time since BSF larvae tend to grow larger in the winter while they are waiting for the best time to pupate. To make it easier and to save you $ we are selling the XL by ounce and pound increments (average 200+ per ounce/ 3,200+ per lb).

Pupa weight is .07 - .09 grams each (averaged for count). When it comes to an efficient compost organism the BSFL are about the most efficient at eating/chewing 99% of what goes into the compost. The large pre-pupa (black and still moving, i.e. pupa = cocoon stage not moving) are still great for feeding at this stage and are also ready to pupate into becoming flies for breeding purposes. I also hear that the axolotl salamander like to eat the flies. Once the larva becomes a fly it lives for only eight days.

If you are looking for pinhead crickets, here’s the solution, hatch them yourself. We produce these small containers with thousands of eggs, that at the right temperature (80 degrees +-) will hatchout in 2-3 weeks. If your a handy do it yourselfer this is an easy project. This bin sits 6’ x 2’ x 30” tall. The inside dimension is 60”x20”x14”. It takes 1 1/2 sheets of plywood, 1 - 10’ 2x4, and 4 - 1x2’s. The cut layout maximizes your wood usage.
